The Machine Gun Preacher: God loves to use broken men and women

I watched the movie “The Machine Gun Preacher” last night, and WOW, what a story Sam Childers has for God`s glory. I remember once my Pastor (Marty Dunkerly) told me that Bikers make great Christians because we understand brotherhood, commitment, and we shoot straight from the hip.

The story of Sam Childers (The Machine Gun Preacher) is one that I certainly relate to from my own life. This man was an addict, a drunk, a onetime enforcer for MC`s in the 1% community, and he lived a violent and arrogant life. Then, a couple of praying woman made all the difference in his walk back to the Lord. His wife was saved before him, while he was in jail, and his mother was a Christian woman who always kept her son on her prayer list.

After he was saved, he was led to Africa on a mission that eventually led to a vision from the Lord to build an orphanage in the middle of a war zone between African Muslims and Christians. He was forced to carry an AK-47 along with his Bible. The natives believed he had Angels guarding his every move, and even the enemy began to fear him and think he was unable to be killed.

He often led night attacks into the enemy camps to free the enslaved young children—this man is a true Hero for the Glory of God`s Kingdom. If you have not yet seen this movie or read his book, I will provide links for readers to find his story and his merchandise (The proceeds fund his ministry). He and his wife are still working in Africa and other areas of the “Third-World” making a difference in very hostile areas for the children who are affected by war, poverty, and starvation.

God has a unique history of using the sinners of this world to become some of his greatest leaders in his fight to bring all his children home to the Kingdom of heaven: 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” (NASB)
